The concept is “Nine chapters for embarking on an imaginary journey to the world’s most beautiful natural places through music during the lockdown.” The production, which is interspersed with nature sounds recorded while traveling through various countries, is said to have been influenced by Bernie Kraus. Centered on beautiful, ephemeral, floating synth work that celebrates nature, the production expands its scope from South American folclore to traditional music from around the world—including Eastern European Gypsy violin and Arab dance (dabke) slowed down and layered with vocals— folklore, evolving the genre of “electric folklore.” This work can be interpreted as a new New Age or ambient piece emerging from this scene, representing an evolution that stands in stark contrast to that of Nicola Cruz, who utilizes modular synthesizers to explore deep techno and bass music. The beautiful artwork is by Tomás Sánchez from Cuba. The release, of course, is on Shika Shika Collective, the label run by Bariolindo and El Buo.
