Evening News are a Melbourne/Naarm-based human-powered electronic band featuring Dan Rock, Winton Findlay, Christy Wositzky-Jones and Miles Henry. Drawing on the members’ backgrounds across live music and DJing, the group creates instrumental dance music that brings house, nu-jazz, jungle, 2-step and IDM into a live-band setting.

“Kaboom” is the first single from Evening News’ forthcoming EP Cupid’s Plan. Driven by high-energy breakbeat drums and a huge distorted bass line that blurs the line between bass guitar and synth, the track barrels forward with the intensity of a lost drum & bass cut from an early-2000s video game soundtrack. Spacey pads and elevated chords float above the rhythm section, balancing the track’s driving chaos with something expansive and euphoric. Recorded live at Dune Castle Studio and engineered by Patrick Ryan (Cantrips), “Kaboom” captures Evening News at their most immediate: electronic music played by humans, fast and loud.
