To celebrate the 35th anniversary of their much-loved track Barefoot In the Head, A Man Called Adam have been digging in their archives to find the kind of unreleased gems, oddities and forgotten mixes that make their Special Edition Series so special. Released on 24th September 2026, the Barefoot In the Head Special Edition features an epic collection that spans the life of this Balearic classic from its original bedroom demo (recorded on a Fostex 4 track) to the brand new 2026 mixes, created exclusively by AMCA for this release. Amongst the 16 tracks in the package there are vinyl only versions from the original independent white label release that got them an album deal with major label subsidiary Big Life, a previously unheard house-era jam (Bowelfoot) featuring a Roland 606 drum machine instead of the classic version’s familiar 909, the Farley & Heller/ Boys Own Ibiza 90 inspired Back to Pacha mix, and the 2005 remixes for Norman Cooke’s Southern Fried label by FUG and Justin Robertson.
Add in AMCA’s timeless Extended, Head and Radio mixes and you might assume that would be enough to satisfy any self-respecting spotter, but there’s more. While searching through the vaults they stumbled on a rehearsal recorded on a GoPro camera. Back in 2017 legendary clubland originator Dave Beer programmed an event in Leeds called The Symphonic Sound of Back to Basics where A Man Called Adam performed an orchestral version of Barefoot In the Head alongside dance luminaries like Adamski, Robert Owens and Basement Jaxx. On Barefoot 26 this lo-fi sound recording with The Northern Symphonia has been filtered and woven, DJ Shadow-style, into a patchwork of the Acoustic and the Cornizenco mixes to create a compelling new cinematic version that’s reflective of who A Man Called Adam are now – still Barefoot in 26.
