Mycophilia is the first glimpse into Heart/Space, the forthcoming album from pianist, composer and producer Sam Crowe, and his first under his own name since 2013. A love letter to the strange, hidden world beneath our feet, lead single Mycophilia takes its name from an affection and fascination with fungi. Like the mycelial networks that spread unseen underground, the music grows outwards from a searching piano motif — branching, multiplying and connecting as it moves. There’s something cosmic about it — a small musical idea becoming its own interconnected ecosystem. Written, recorded and produced by Crowe at his studio The Crowe’s Nest, Mycophilia introduces the world of Heart/Space: twelve pieces rooted in jazz but allowed to grow freely through soul, electronics, improvisation and everything that exists in between.
