Pallaví aka Fijiana, a Bay Area Fijian artist reclaims autonomy and sexuality in her new song with New Delhi-based crew MadStarBase. The fast paced track features bold Fiji-Hindi and English lyrics that shift the narrative of sexuality back to a woman’s perspective in a largely patriarchal society. This is an artist that is used to challenging the ideas of what is considered normal in her other works and this one is no different, pushing the limits even further.


The first lines, “Dhak Dhak he just wanna..” and later lyric “Madhuri attitude ‘cause I am the best” showcase that this song is inspired and a play off of the classic ‘Dhak Dhak’ from the popular Bollywood film Beta. Instead of the main heroine dancing for the male, in our new twist we have Fijiana dancing for herself, for her chosen audience, and not a male gaze.

MadStarBase's signature take on Bollywood music carries the sound of this collaboration as Fijiana creative directs and produces the music video showcasing her many skills in front and behind the scenes. The video features a choreographed dance by Veenu Gill that features an all woman cast scene including Raven Mapanao, Symoné Le’nae, and Tanu Sreedharan directed and edited by Hunter Cates.
