Two students of Milford Graves meet and deliver a highly inspired set of spiritual free jazz. US saxophonist Stanley J. Zappa (nephew of Frank in case you're wondering) and Finnish drummer/percussionist Simo Laihonen (of Black Motor) came together for a tour in Finland which resulted in both studio and live recordings. The upcoming Stanley J. Zappa album "Muster Point", to be released on Helsinki's We Jazz Records on Aug 7, is pulled together from the best of these tapes, also adding Black Motor bassist Ville Rauhala in the mix alongside Zappa and Laihonen on some of the selections. The album is a landmark release for Stanley J. Zappa, now based in Oliver, BC (Canada). While an active musician for decades, his career has advanced mostly under the radar of mainstream jazz media.
The first single preceding the album is "Pleasant Avenue", an instrospective duo number by Zappa and Laihonen, and a testament to the fact that nothing beats personal chemistry when two musicians create new music in the moment.
