Gusstaff and folklore music? And why not, especially when so performed. On the one hand, it is beautiful minimalist (double bass, drums, voice) and on the other, it is radical in sound. Tuleje, however, is not a strictly folk band, let alone a folklore one, it is the music of the roots of the place where they live, in their very original, contemporary, sometimes wild version.

The band Tuleje consists of Gosia Zagajewska (vocal), Ksawery Wójciński (double bass) and Wojtek Kurek (drums). Their interpretation of folk music from eastern Wielkopolska (Greater Poland) is permeated with deep respect for the original material and at the same time expresses their subjective view of tradition. It is a bold view, full of references to jazz, blues, early music and free improvisation. The repertoire is based on folk melodies from the villages around Konin. The lyrics were written by the vocalist, Gosia Zagajewska, who is also a poet. They are strongly inspired by archaic songs, both in terms of their sound and original texts.

The artists mix tradition with modernity in a unique way, allowing contemporary poetry to resonate with indescribable force thanks to the melodies preserved on archive recordings. They derive from the collection entitled "Musical folklore from the vicinity of Konin", initiated and produced by Krzysztof Pydyński, musicologist and a director of Music School in Konin. These publications contain rich musical material from areas so far overlooked by researchers.

The musicians coming primarily from the world of improvisation and jazz propose a new, non-obvious and uncompromising reinterpretation of traditional music, with the mood and sound loosely referring to such artists like Tom Waits or Nick Cave. The arrangements are largely based on rhythm, trance, looping, but also on improvisation from which the tradition of rural music derives. In their austerity, these newly created compositions refer very strongly to folk music, they pay tribute to it and express great respect for the source from which they draw.
