A legendary pianist and composer from the Italian library music scene of the '70s and '80s, Oscar Rocchi was also a great sonic experimenter, as this album clearly shows. Recorded in 1977 in Rome, at the studios of Fabrio Borgazzi’s Minstrel, “Magic Keys” contains, on one side, six romantic, easy-listening ballads and, on the other side, an equal number of obscure electronic soundscapes. These two very different moods are produced using the same instruments: the album was recorded almost entirely by Rocchi on his own, overdubbing various acoustic and electroacoustic keyboards, and creatively inserting vibrating synths like Arp 2600 and Arp Pro Soloist together with harmonic pads and melodies played on piano, harpsichord, Fender Rhodes and Hammond organ.
