Jazz re:freshed are proud to present the first single 'Ochre' by rising composer, vocalist and arranger Sofia Grant. Out on July 12th 2023, it is taken from her debut release 'Extinction', landing September 1st 2023, which offers a meditation on themes of climate change, ecological collapse and our relationship with the natural world.
'Ochre' pays homage to the natural pigments of the colour yellow, which symbolise the vibrance of the natural world and the gifts it can offer when we are ready to receive them. This celebratory piece puts forward a oneness with nature - within a record that explores and laments its destruction.
Bringing together the voices of friends and loved ones singing in unity and chorus, the track features an uplifting drum solo by Lya Reis Guerrero (Poppy Ajudha, Colectiva), enriched with glorious percussion from Ernesto Marichales (Jordan Rakei, Ashley Henry) and dynamic bass grooves from Alley Lloyd (Bryony Jarman-Pinto, Angelique Kidjo).
