Annika Fuhrmann is a versatile singer, musician, and sound artist, who feels most at home in the fields of experimental music theater, sound art, improvisation, and contemporary music. Annika has premiered several works composed for her and has performed in interdisciplinary projects with artists from various fields.
While studying classical singing, Annika found herself questioning the point of everyone singing the same repertoire over and over again. The very narrow and rigid aesthetic constraints also triggered a destructive self-critic within her, who was constantly dissatisfied with herself and her abilities. It took her several years of focusing on completely different areas in life and work to free
herself from these chains. At the moment Annika is drawn to honesty, roughness and incompleteness in performing instead of technical perfection. She is eager to experiment with new working methods and constantly seeks new ways to express herself. This has also led to collaboration with Tom Lönnqvist.
Tom Lönnqvist is a Helsinki based artist working with sound, space and performance. He has been part of several acclaimed dance and performance art pieces. Toms artistic work include working with body, modular synthesis, video, installation, painting, drums and ambisonic field-recordings.
Toms sound work is closely related to and dependent on body. He uses machines to create sound and find them creating him in the process. He is an outdoor enthusiasts so air, water and earth are crucial to his designs. Tom is interested in the unknown. Especially how we as humans interact with cosmos. The question for him is how frequencies, movement and in betweens we encounter (body, earth, cosmos) relate and transform into sound.
