For the past few years, Jill Peacock has been best known for performing as the lead vocalist for the Brooklyn-based jazz-fusion band aStridd. In that time, she has performed all over Toronto and New York, both with a band and as a solo artist. Jill's style is influenced by artists like Erykah Badu, Amy Winehouse, Beth Gibbons, and Little Dragon.
While attending Berklee, Jill teamed up with Yuki 'U-Key' Kanesaka (KON, Monolog, Honey Sauce Band) to demo one track, "Up In The Air", and it was like lightning in a bottle: "I have always gravitated towards the mix of old samples and live instruments," says Peacock, "Yuki just got my vision right away." It was this demo that first caught the attention of Do Right Music, leading to the development of Jill's debut 5-track EP - a concise collection of new school R&B, with touches of jazz, dub, downtempo, and soulful electronica, that captures the spirit of that initial fruitful collaboration.
Her leadoff single '3'O Clock', rides a heavy bass synth groove into the deep hours of the night. The track was premiered by Gilles Peterson on BBC Radio 6 and is already catching the attention of discerning dancefloors and tastemaking DJs like Lefto. This is just a taste of what's to come from Jill Peacock. Stay tuned for more music.
