Palmistry 'Vapore' on Rinse FM - Guestlist Playlist along with
Palmistry is the responsable of Triad God's music production released on Hippos in Tanks
South London producer Palmistry (aka Benjy Keating) responsable for TRIAD GOD's (Hippos in Tanks) production and music, fresh from a collaboration with James Ferraro and a single out on MixPak join in with Presto!? on this amazing work tha moves between hermetic sometimes hyper-minimalistic R&B rips, fine ambient tones and 'dancehall' overtures on low freq domain.
London musician/producer Palmistry seems to have come into his own recently. After his really fantastic single Catch for Mixpak, he's lining up a new 12" for Italian label Presto!?. The EP's title track, Lil Gem, is a very emotive instrumental song which defies any obvious classification. The melodies and arpeggios are almost J-RPG-esque, the deep toms and claps give it a stoned rhythm, and the operatic samples are so expertly woven into the composition - which is pretty minimalist, really - that you don't even notice what a weird piece of sampling it is. Whatever it is, it's a belter.
I first heard about London beatsmith/filmmaker Benjy Keating, aka Palmistry, while posting a few missives from the Cantonese-rapping Hippos In Tanks artist Triad God. The origins of that project remain somewhat of a mystery to me, but Palmistry's driving role in both the production and visual aspects of the Vietnamese/Chinese MC's career got me kind of curious about the guy. A few weeks ago, he dropped an Auto-Tuned, dancehall-inspired single on Mixpak; the accompanying slow-mo footage of a woman dancing in athletic gear enhanced the feel-good vibes, and also confirmed his vision as a hyper-stylized one, manifesting itself equally through image and sound.
