On DBA001 Semtek combines elements of his many musical influences, with the skills he has carefully honed over time. The EP kicks off with the deep housey feel of ‘Bells’, before moving on to the tracky breakbeat undertones of ‘Key’, while the old-skool vibe of ‘Village’ completes the package.

Comments: Oldscool flavour! Nice.

Skrufff Top 5: (October 2) issue 434:

1: Semtek: Bells
(Don’t Be Afraid)

Featuring a bizarre though engaging American girl chatting about visiting Liverpool, over stripped, spaced out Berlin style beats, the track explodes into action via a hauntingly melancholic synth line which ebbs and flows with stunning effect. Colin Mr G McBean adds a masculine slamming techno remix though it’s Semtek’s original which stands out the most. Special.

Thanks for the great promo! ‘Bells’ is OK, I like the little bell melody and how he used it was cool. ‘Key’ is a cool electro track that’s for sure! The mixing is perfect so I can hear the guy really did his studying as the one sheet says! The Mr G mix is fucking dope! I need this on vinyl please please please!! That’s the Mr G I haven’t heard in a long time!! ‘Village’ track is nice and dirty electro but I prefer ‘Key’.

Going with the original mix on this one, love how ‘The Bells’ tells a story verbally and musically, great melody that really gets under the skin!
