“Santtana erases the line between acoustic & electronic music" ROLLING STONE
“Santtana’s innovative approach makes for a refreshing excursion” (4/5) THE OBSERVER(
“Santtana blends the hushed approach that Joao Gilberto pioneered and mixes it with shimmering sparse electronics” DOWNBEAT
“An adventurous, discordant deconstruction” THE TELEGRAPH
On ‘Sem Nostalgia’ Lucas Santtana has re-imagined the sonic possibilities of acoustic guitars and voices to create a modern electro-acoustic masterpiece using only these instruments.
Using samplers, pedals, filters and non-conventional recording techniques, Santtana created a haunting, disorientating and forward thinking work:
“It was a great challenge to start an album knowing it would have limited sound sources” he opines, “yet I knew I could use this to the music’s advantage. I was also inspired by how Miles Davis defined notes and chromatic scale limits for his musicians on a ‘Kind of Blue’ and used this economy to make the music more intense”.
