First Word are proud to present the debut album from Mike-L, the fantastic 'On A Columbo Tip'. Following on from other First Word releases this year, Mike has crafted an album that shares the
dusty-fingered, crate-digging sound of Herma Puma with the unashamedly retro style of The Simonsound's 'Reverse Engineering'.
Mike's been with First Word since day one, winning over fans with his dusty-grooved hip hop and funk production. Eye Of The Storm was one of the first 12's we released back in 2005, and was a defining release for the label. A veteran of six DMC finals Mike has managed the seemingly rare feat of combining jaw-dropping turntablist skills with genuine beat-making talent, crafting a 15-track opus that takes in Madlib-style Hip Hop, Cut Chemist-influenced breakbeat funk and the eerie soundscapes of RJD2.
