Motel d'amour - A Lost NDW-Era Electro-Funk Gem
In late 2024, while working with Collage's Markus Kammann on Mit den Puppen tanzen, we were unexpectedly handed a forgotten treasure: a fully unreleased 1985 album titled Motel d'amour. When we heard the first preview - Nachtcafé - we were stunned. Funky basslines, crisp TR-808 grooves, shimmering synths, and Katrin A. Kunze's sharp vocals immediately drew us in. It was everything we seek in lost musical gems. Motel d'amour is a concept album told through the lens of a young, confident woman navigating nightlife, desire, and love. Kunze's lyrics explore flirting (Rendezvous), fleeting romance (Casanova), and the pulse of nocturnal city life (Die Nacht ist noch jung). Her writing is both socially observant and emotionally tuned, paired with the tight electro-funk production of Kammann and Jürgen Grah. Finally released nearly 40 years later, Motel d'amour stands proudly beside obscure German 80s classics and leftfield funk gems. It's ideal for adventurous DJs or anyone craving a fresh take on vintage sounds. Note: The original master tapes are lost. All tracks were restored from cassette and digitally remastered. Some light distortion remains.
