Diskotopia is ecstatic to welcome Myakkah back to the fold after a seven-year silence with the Living Within Coded Chambers EP. Across the previously released Warehouse Soul and Ascension Procession EPs, Myakkah has thrived on operating on the liminal edges of NY (acid)house, UK funky, trip-hop, and ‘nuum-related branches of sound. Across Living Within Coded Chambers, Myakkah hones into distinctly synthesized and secular lysergic head-spaces peppered with pattern mutations inspired by past luminaries such as Adam Beyer to Basic Channel, Tom Tom Club to Dub Syndicate, and outwards into the aether.
Accessing a current of “consciousness throughout the cosmos,” Living unfurls as a bruk dub-techno roller accented with slippery synth phrases, cocoon-lined subs and external messages of reality relayed by a legendary planetary skywatcher. Within then slows the tempo and taps into and strains soundsystem pressure, best suited for Drexciyan sub-aquatic diplomatic missions to long-lost Atlantean discos.
Tangents of rocksteady mid-80s battles on the NY Transit System and subsequent pirate radio cypher sessions haunt the percussive and buoyant Coded – evoking Shep Pettibone versioning Zazou Bikaye. Chambers dissects and isolates an electro-infused outing of ritualistic formations, bringing a momentary solace to the eternal mysteries which continue to incite and inspire us all.
