“i follow a barren path across the old mountain” is the second single from Chalybeate, aus + The Humble Bee’s album drawn from their Ikaho-Onsen project.
The piece is built from the sound of wooden geta striking the stone steps of Ikaho, subtle flows of water recorded inside a ryokan lobby, and carefully placed tones that recall traditional hanging ornaments. These elements are reorganized into a delicate rhythmic structure, where movement through space becomes audible.
Rather than describing the town directly, the track translates its physical gestures and decorative details into a restrained, textural composition.
