Vilhelm Bromander, a key, award-winning figure in the free jazz and experimental scenes in Stockholm returns with his second album for Warm Winters Ltd., 'Aurora II'. He's a well-known fixture in the Swedish musical circles, having collaborated with artists like Kali Malone, Maria W. Horn and Ellen Arkbro, among many others, performing regularly across the whole country. "Fenice" is the first single off this album.
'Aurora II' is his second album for an extended woodwind ensemble, which again features musicians playing on instruments unfamiliar to them. It's deeply romantic music at its core, journey-like, but strangely naive and strict because the musicians aren't entirely comfortable, thus capturing a unique kind of tension. On this second album, he draws inspiration from mythological birds and spiritual poetry (for instance 'Conference of the birds' by Farid Ud-din Attar), referencing the rebirth of the phoenix on "Fenice", or the aforementioned poem on "Valley of Detachment".
