A groundbreaking pioneer of proto-techno from E2-E4. Ash Ra Tempel guitarist Manuel Göttsching’s first solo album from 1974 is being reissued by Mg.Art.

This work makes full use of echo, delay, and various other effects on the guitar, giving it a synthesizer-like quality created by a sequencer—a sound reminiscent of Tangerine Dream during that era. The repeating rhythms and gradual phase shifts create a distorted sense of time, making “Echowaves” (sample 1) a masterpiece of space guitar that induces a trance-like state; while “Pluralis” (sample 3) employs a similar technique but features a rounder, more mellow sound—this 21-and-a-half-minute sonic journey is also absolutely wonderful. It’s also impressive that this was recorded on a four-channel recorder. A true classic! (Original Japanese text by AYAM)
