"Tamba" (commonly known as "Black Tamba"), one of the greatest albums of 1970s Brazil—which hadn’t been reissued on vinyl for a long time—has finally been reissued on vinyl. Featuring electric piano, synthesizers, Afro-Brazilian rhythms, and ensemble playing—with superb attention to detail—this album delivers a cutting-edge and sophisticated Brazilian sound that even surpasses the works of Azymuth and OPA.

While the Tamba Trio’s 1960s recordings—well-known among Brazilian music fans—are, of course, wonderful, this period in the 1970s was also rich in great music; in particular, this *Black Tamba* album holds a special place in my heart. The original LP was commissioned by Varig Brazilian Airlines as a promotional item for its DC-10 flights to the U.S. and distributed to passengers. It was later officially released as the first album under the RCA label, with the cover art replaced by this sleeve. Luis Eça, Bebeto, and Elcio Milito. Featuring compositions by Antonio Carlos E Jocafi and Marcos Valig, among others, the album boasts a superb soundscape that blends Afro-Brazilian percussion, polyrhythms, fluid rhythms, sophisticated grooves, and string arrangements. Each vocal performance is outstanding as well. With its harmonies, basslines, psychedelic electronic sounds, keyboards, and a mix of both energetic and mellow tracks, this album is endlessly captivating. While this is likely not an official reissue, it is a vinyl reissue. (Original Japanese text by Saito)
