A legend from Uruguay who has been recognized and loved by fans of Latin American music, including a new generation: Hugo Fatruoso—a legend from Uruguay who has been recognized and loved by a new generation of fans of Latin American music—and percussionist Albana Barocas, who has been collaborating with Hugo in recent years, have released their 2023 EP *Puente* as the duo Ha Duo, now available in Japan via Disco É Cultura. The sound is one that could well be considered Hugo’s new masterpiece.
(Hugo Fattoruso)

Much like Ruben Rada and Eduardo Mateo’s El Kinto, Hugo Fattoruso began his career with the legendary Uruguayan group Los Shakers—who were influenced by 1960s British Beat—and, building on the candombe tradition passed down among African immigrants, was shaped by jazz fusion, Hugo Fattoruso has evolved into OPA—a group that stands alongside the likes of AIRTO MORAIRA in the annals of rare groove history—and continues to produce wonderful music to this day. In recent years, he has made repeated visits to Japan with projects such as Dos Orientales with Tomohiro Yahiro and remains beloved here. This is his latest release. Hugo’s keyboard work alongside female percussionist Albana Barocas. Their ensemble and energy are so seamless, it’s hard to believe there are only two of them. It makes you want to experience them live. Apparently, Giles has also praised it highly. (Original Japanese text by Saito)
