"The soundtrack to the film *Hands That Bind* by Canadian filmmaker Kyle Armstrong. Since the film hasn’t been released in Japan, I haven’t been able to verify the content, but here’s a quote from Pitchfork’s review (7.5 out of 10).

"Jim O’Rourke’s soundtrack is a perfect match for this unforgiving landscape, sandwiched between arid fields and a windswept sky. With a tuned piano, a watery vibraphone, and muted, amorphous sparkles that sound like a harmonium or synthesizer, his palette matches the film’s dusty hues of beige, pewter, and mobile-home brown. The soundtrack drifts through an ambiguous, ambivalent, unresolved interzone—neither major nor minor—and ends just as it began. "By Philip Sherburne

However, this work has a unique “darkness” to it, and while I pondered what might be causing it beyond the film’s content, since the music comes from Jim—who has been pursuing Americana—I’ve taken the liberty of speculating that it might be the “darkness” unique to folklore and Americana. It’s a world that fans will find irresistible.
Jeff Parker’s new album was fantastic—along with *International Anthem*—and I can feel the enduring intelligence and sincerity of the Chicago sound. It’s a bit of a niche release, but for those familiar with this genre, it’s a surefire must-have. He really is one of the heavyweights. The music isn’t available on streaming services or Bandcamp—it’s vinyl only. From DRAG CITY, of course. (Original Japanese text by Shhhhh)
