In this work, Drumgita’s multi-track solo performance unfolds into an ecstatic, trance-like inner cosmic musical universe—a pitch-black, hypnotic, funky, and boogie-infused groove reminiscent of the Moroccan Gnawa string instrument, the gembri. With African percussion, minimal repetition, and the sounds of musique concrète-style tape manipulation, this is truly a one-of-a-kind, spiritual, futuristic, solitary, and supremely rich sonic world. A hidden gem of Afro-percussion, experimental, psychic, and outsider music from Brixton, UK, in the early 1980s. It offers a slightly different flavor from “Drumland Dreamland,” which was also released in 1982 on the independent label Drumony Records and reissued simultaneously; that said, both albums present a wonderful musical world.
