Mala, returns on DEEP MEDi MUSIK with "the pidgin rap don" Magugu with a release that has been circulating as a mystery dub in different spaces around the world, for at least a year: whether Mala himself at Houghton, Skream in Ibiza, Sir Spyro shelling down club spaces or Four Tet laying bass weight on 80,000 ravers at HARD Fest in Hollywood.
MALA—who, alongside COKI, has run DMZ and I & I Music, and has also been active beyond the boundaries of dubstep on Gilles Peterson’s Brownswood and other platforms—releases a new single via Deep Medi Musik. The track features Nigerian MC Magugu, who has made his mark in the UK funky, grime, garage, and African bass scenes. The killer track “Militant Don” has already been released across various platforms. The release includes the original, an instrumental, and an a cappella version.
