Nagoya-based electronic musician Shokuhin Matsuri, a.k.a. foodman, has released his latest album, “HIKARIGASASHIKOMU”—his second release following “Yasuragi land”—on the prestigious UK label Hyperdub! Standard black vinyl LP.

〈食品まつり a.k.a foodman〉
名古屋出身の電子音楽家。2012年にNYの〈Orange Milk〉よりリリースしたデビュー作『Shokuhin』を皮切りに、〈Mad decent〉や〈Palto Flats〉など国内外の様々なレーベルからリリースを重ね、その後のワールドツアーではUnsound、Boiler Room、Low End Theoryに出演。
2021年7月にUKのレーベル〈Hyperdub〉から最新アルバム『Yasuragi land』をリリース。アルバムは Pitchforkの「The Best Electronic Music of 2021」やMusic Magazine、ele-kingなど国内外のメディアの年間ベストに選ばれた。2023年11月にUKのレーベル〈Hyperdub〉から『Uchigawa Tankentai』をリリース。2025年10月にはNikki nairとのコラボレーションEP「NAGOYA EP」を同じく〈Hyperdub〉からリリースした。
自身のルーツの一つでもある沖縄を背景に、シカゴ・フットワークからのインスパイアから浮かび上がる特異のサウンドはニューエイジやアンビエントとひも付きながら、様々なスタイルの音楽を生み出している。ロンドンのラジオ局〈NTS Radio〉のレジテントも担当。他にBo NingenのTaigen Kawabeとのユニット「KISEKI」、中原昌也とのユニット「食中毒センター」、ナカコー (ex.supercar LAMA)、沼澤尚とのセッションユニットとしても活動。

As the title suggests, this work signifies “light shining through,” representing a glimmer of hope amid difficult circumstances. It was created as a direct evolution of the EP “uchigawa tankentai (Inner Exploration Team),” released by Hyperdub in 2023.
While actively incorporating her own voice, she blends elements of Japanese nursery rhymes and folk songs, along with casual everyday humming, into her unique sonic palette. Drawing on influences from footwork, ghetto house, and baile funk, she creates a one-of-a-kind percussive cut-up collage-like world. Fragmented sound elements flit, roll, bounce, and leap; deconstruction and repetition, along with ecstatic shifts in tempo, are repeated as the music is gradually played—or not played—or simply tossed aside.
This 14-track album captures the soundscapes within FOODMAN’s mind—introspective yet imbued with intense energy—and imaginatively embodies the clarity and “light” discovered through deep self-exploration. The unique world of FOODMAN, where excess and tranquility coexist in a mysterious way, sparks with intense, overwhelming energy!!! Is this truly hyperpop?
