Modal jazz in a vein that connects to SAHIB SHIHAB-related works. This isn't just surface-level "oh, there's Afro-flavored vocals and percussion so it feels African" — this is playing rooted in polyrhythm, one of the essential elements of African music. A handful of hardcore folks, including the BOREDOMS and PARA crowd, have boldly taken on polyrhythm, and this stands as one of the great achievements of polyrhythmic performance.
