Tokyo-based composer/string player Atsuko Hatano — known for her contributions to works by Eiko Ishibashi, Jim O'Rourke, Mocky, Kid Fresino, Yuta Orisaka and more — returns with her strings project Triola, featuring violinist An Suhara, and their new album "Scapegoat," built around the theme of an "imaginary opera." Now getting the long-awaited analog LP release on cutting-edge UK label Constructive!! Highly recommended.

As if probing new possibilities for the string ensemble, the music centers on viola, violin, cello and contrabass, weaving in experimental touches of piano, synthesizer, vocals, spoken word and sound collage — a conceptual, sweet and elegant post-classical electronica world that's utterly captivating. Eleven gorgeous pieces that might best be called an imaginary soundtrack to a fictional opera. Guest appearances from Eiko Ishibashi, Tatsuhisa Yamamoto, Hiroki Chiba and Koji Shibuya. Mixed by Jim O'Rourke, mastered by Joe Talia.
The music video for "Foghorn" (sample2), a drawing and collage animation by British animator Edwin Rostron, is a wonderful piece that fantastically conveys his affection for the pioneers of experimental animation. A must-see. Includes inner sheet with lyrics and credits. (Original Japanese text by COMPUMA)
