It’s so reminiscent of urban pop songs from Thailand’s 1950s through 1970s—you might mistake it for a rediscovered Luk Krung track. Chintamani / Чинтамани (sample 1)—with its blend of European modern sensibilities, Asian humidity and allure, and dreamy, nostalgic, androgynous vocals—was a real shock when I first heard it.
“Selenge / Сэлэнгэ” (sample 2) is an instrumental track featuring the Yatga, a traditional Mongolian string instrument. This one seems like it could work in all sorts of situations, too!

Its scope is vast, ranging from BIG CROWN-style Chicano vintage soul to Kruang Bin and EM Records-style reissues of Thai and world music. Yet it’s simply just great music… Who would have thought that the nostalgia of Asian pop and vintage soul could blend together so seamlessly? There’s a subtle sense of freshness, too.
