Based on rough sketches created on an old MPC2000XL, I recorded in the studio with my longtime friend and collaborator Sam Crowe (Cleo Sol, Lianne La Havas), a longtime friend and collaborator, in the studio. The album features four thoughtful, profound, and captivating tracks that blend spiritual jazz, deep house, broken beat, dub, hip-hop, and analog vintage electronic sounds.
Featuring master saxophonist James Mollison (Ezra Collective, Nala Sinephro), the standout track A1, “andthenitstarted (feat. James Mollison)” (sample 1), is a soft, beat-driven jazz track at around 106 BPM; A2 “One 4 Santi (feat. Sam Crowe)” (sample 2), a downtempo chill-out jazz track at 94 BPM with a soothing, cosmic electric piano sound; BPM 108, B1 “andthenitstarted (Patrice Scott Remix)”, a nice remix by Detroit house legend Patrice Scott featuring a slow-motion, soulful, beat-driven groove, BPM 127, B2 “andthenitstarted (Last Nubian Remix)” (sample 3), a pitch-black broken-beat house remix by Eglo Records labelmate Last Nubian, is also sure to get the dance floor moving.
