Expanding the culture of indigenous communities in northern Ecuador into the realm of avant-garde electronic music! MALA FAMA, a Quechua sound artist from Ibarra, Ecuador, breaks new ground in South American folclore by blending his culture with borderless electronic music! Be sure to experience the groove that connects the ritualistic body movements unique to his tradition with modern dance music. It’s also interesting to note that the mastering was handled by NICOLA CRUZ.

MALA FAMA—who are expanding the musical lineage of Ecuador and the Andean region while resonating with artists such as the electronica act QUIXOSIS—have released their debut full-length album *Jichushka* (meaning “lonely” or “abandoned” in Quechua) after a long production period spanning from 2016 to 2022! The album reimagines Quechua funeral music with a fresh texture, linking machine beats with the sacred cyclical nature of Andean-based melodies. Led by the already much-talked-about lead single “Mortaja II,” the group expands the unique culture and traditional music of indigenous communities in northern Ecuador into the contemporary era through boundary-less electronic experimentation. From gentle ambient sounds that bring out the pastoral resonance of the Andes to deconstructed dance tracks built on heavy sequences, this masterpiece embodies an approach that creates new possibilities for their culture while maintaining their pride as indigenous people.
