2LP(Color) ---- JPY

The latest release in Numero Group’s “Eccentric Soul” series, which spotlights and thoroughly explores local soul labels across the United States. This compilation features recordings from *The Magic Touch*, a record label founded in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in 1964 by Lenny LaCoul, who was also active as a singer in Chicago under the name King Creole, and which returned to Chicago in the 1970s. Reflecting the musical style of Lenny Lacour—who, as a Creole, was one of the few artists able to perform at both Black and White clubs—this compilation features a wide range of tracks from the label, spanning rock ’n’ roll, doo-wop, R&B, and soul, as well as psychedelic and disco influences by the late 1960s. The unfathomable depth of American local music culture.

This compilation features numerous tracks being reissued for the first time, including works by Milwaukee soul singer Harvey Scales—who has also had solo compilations released—as well as the mixed-race band Junior & The Classics (with a reissue on *TRAMP*), Marvelle & The Blue Match, Filet Of Soul, and Detroit’s The Tornados. Many of the tracks were produced by Lenny LaCure. The set includes a booklet packed with rare photos and archival material, as well as a gatefold sleeve. The mesmerizing sound of soul. A NUMERO Works release. You won’t regret it. (Original Japanese text by Saito)

Conjuring from '64-'80, Lenny "King Creole" LaCour dealt a mean slight of sockin' R&B, basement beehive, hard funk, group harmony, and proto disco across a variety of mysterious imprints. This deluxe double album set gathers 26 soulful tricks from the Magic Touch top hat, with an illusion's worth of noters, photos, and ephemera in the accompanying booklet. Abracadabra.
