The Canton Mambo project began as research in 2018, an exploration of archives, sounds, and stories that spoke across oceans. It has since grown into nights of dancing and, now, recordings that seek to honor tradition while venturing into new terrain. This record presents two chapters in that journey: Canton Mambo and Lotus.
Gia Fuが奏でる古筝の音色がアイコニックなA面「Canton Mambo」。かつてフェンダーローズと中国の伝統楽器によるラテンファンクが存在したでしょうか、、美しいです。中国のオリエンタルな旋律とサルサのグルーヴの融合、ファンキーなブレイクのパートが印象的なB面「Lotus」もまた良い。 (AYAM)
