IAN MUGERWA—better known as the genius DAWUNA—made a name for himself worldwide with his debut album *Glass Lit Dream*, which he self-released digitally in 2020. The album was later pressed on vinyl by the avant-garde label *O___o?* (home to LA TIMPA), sold out immediately, and became a major sensation—even selling out at our store without any promotional announcements. He created this work while recovering from a serious injury, and though he says he now has only fragmentary memories of the production process, it was inspired by his family life at the time. The composition is simple and minimalist, and an abstract, avant-garde R&B sound. It features warm melodies and moments of silence that offer glimpses of the personal emotions intended, alongside distinctive, distorted sampling work. While there are tender moments, the shadow of trauma flickers throughout—it’s deeply moving how he has firmly captured something that could only have been created at that specific moment.
