Cult British blues-folk mentioned in the same breath as Bert Jansch and Michael Chapman: MIKE COOPER, whose recent work for ETHOB MUSIC, the label run by HOWARD of HONEST JON'S, was also superb. His 2013 masterpiece now gets a vinyl release on SACRED SUMMITS, the label run by STUART LEATH of EMOTIONAL RESPONSE and HOUSE OF TRAP of FIRECRACKER! Active since the '60s, and his more recent sound-oriented works are equally remarkable — exotic, junk-shop sound collage woven with field recordings, drone and lo-fi folk. Deep shadows in the sound. Twisted. At times an overwhelming bass-heavy texture and a real sense of dance. Works on the floor. What an era. With its silkscreened sleeve, it already carries the unmistakable air of a classic.
