A long-awaited new 12-inch release from the prestigious Kompakt label by Extrawelt—a duo of artisans led by Arne Schaffhausen & Wayan Raabe, also known under the monikers Midimiliz and The Delta, based in Hamburg, Germany, who continue to explore progressive, experimental, techno, and psychedelic sounds!! ! First up is the eerie track “HONEY HUNTER” (sample 1), which leads you into a dark, mysterious realm where bossa nova and techno fuse—give it a listen!!!
It’s not just since James Bond and the introduction of World Overshoot Day that we’ve known: The world isn’t enough. We need an Extrawelt! Arne Schaffhausen and Wayan Raabe have been tinkering with this celestial body for over two decades, and it seems to be slowly nearing completion. You certainly can’t accuse Extrawelt of lacking ideas. They are, so to speak, the legitimate descendants of the legendary planet designer Slartibartfast from Douglas Adams’ “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy”. No doubt, the downright insanely creative bossa nova-techno bastard “Honey Hunter” will be mentioned in the same breath as Slartibartfast’s award-winning Norwegian coastlines by future civilizations. The other three tracks aren’t half bad either. Take our word for it.

BPM 124—A2 “HAZINGER” (sample 2), an elegant, architectural 4/4 techno-science-experimental-tech-psychedelic track with spatial aesthetics, BPM 131, “COVER BLOWN” (B1) (sample 3)—a left-field electro-techno track that showcases the artist’s mad scientist side, featuring a melancholic robotic voice that carries a faint sense of longing, BPM 129, with its meticulously crafted structure and European-dark, beautiful sound design, the progressive tech experimental B2 “BLACK BADGER” is both a floor-filler and a work of art.
