He grew up steeped in traditional Shona culture in a small farming village in Manicaland Province, near the Mozambican border, and his grandfather was a spirit medium. Ephat was one of Zimbabwe's foremost musicians, living through that turbulent era. Singing of brotherhood, healing, and unity as a balm for the heat of that struggle, EPHAT died suddenly of a heart attack in 2001. To think the mbira, an instrument of nothing but healing sound, carries such a history. Even so, just immerse yourself in this uniquely natural ambient sound world.
