Reissue! A 2012 release by THE CARETAKER—a project by V/VM (aka LEYLAND KIRBY)—that had become hard to find is now being reissued in a 2023 limited edition!
Why does the piano, playing against the backdrop of a record’s scratchy noise, sound so moving? Depending on the track, it’s played within a balance that makes it sound like noise music or even doom. While works like Cage’s *4’33”* and Marie Schafer’s soundscapes tend to focus on ambient sounds, this piece sounds like an experience of an imaginary nostalgia that transcends time. British experimental musician JAMES KIRBY, known for various projects including V/VM, under the alias THE CARETAKER. The “Everywhere At The End Of Time” series, which has become a series of releases. 4–6.
Under the alias THE CARETAKER, British experimental musician JAMES KIRBY—known for projects such as V/VM—presents the “Everywhere At The End Of Time” series. Stages 4 through 6 have been released as a 4-CD set. With each stage, the melodies seem to disintegrate. They become mere afterimages, mingling with noise and chaos to produce a miraculous beauty. A must-listen. (Original Japanese text by Saito)
