From Detroit’s techno resistance to Berlin’s elastic minimalism ...Read more, from the ancestral futurism of Lusaka to the house communion of Chicago, *When There Is No Sun* is a global recording project that brings together visionary electronic music producers to reconstruct Sun Ra’s universe.

Sun Ra, one of the most radical musical pioneers of the 20th century, expanded the possibilities of sound, identity, and imagination through jazz, electronics, poetry, and performance.

Commissioned by Omni Sound and curated by Ricardo Villalobos, this series features Underground Resistance, Che Damier & Ben Vedren, Calibre, A Guy Called Gerald, She Spells Doom, Barish K, and Ricardo Villalobos himself.

Based on Omni Sound’s archival material—including *Living Sky* by the Sun Ra Arkestra and the spoken-word album *My Words Are Music*, which features Sun Ra’s poetry—the producers draw fragments of sound and text into their own creative trajectories, passing through the gateway to the “realm where the impossible becomes possible” that Sun Ra opened.

The recitations by Saul Williams, Anthony Joseph, Mahogany L. Brown, Abiodun Oyeyole, Tunde Adebinpe, and Tara Middleton transform rhyme into rhythm and resistance into revelation.

Rooted in deep respect for Sun Ra’s legacy yet reaching toward the future as a vibrant creative force, *When There Is No Sun* is not merely a tribute, but a continuum. Striking a balance between the pulse of electronic music and a spirit of experimentation, it embodies Sun Ra’s promise that “another world exists”—if only one is willing to see it.

Drawing deeply from a rich palette of genres such as deep house, ambient, dub ...Read more techno, and jazz, and feeding in inspirations from natural and philosophical spheres, Vakula's musical ethos has allowed him to continuously explore the inner and outer reaches of his universal soundscape. By feeling things out through hardware, he allows his music to grow organically, blending humanistic tendencies with technological outputs that always bring harmonious musical riches to the surface.
'Times' represents another seismic chapter in his story, one which contains a series of genre-defying blends that twist, turn, and enthrall with their ever-evolving beauty. 'Atmos Time' plays out as the EP opens up, and draws the listener close with a textured melodic chime and spaced out groove.

This stop turned into a bit of a several day stopover for the TR, who saw the town, met up with other Portland people, and after that was left with a bit of a aural vision of the whole experience, the DIY ethos of the Portland, and the desire to document these impressions on the label of his bill mate for the aforementioned night, LoDubs. Shortly thereafter "Triumphant March" arrived at the LoDubs mailbox, and reverb heavy, oozing slab of Jungle funkiness. Upon realizing this would be good material for a dubby remix, the next step was reaching out for people to do so, and Beatrice M was at that time really getting noticed with their take on Dub. This year has seen them really move up the ranks, needless to say.』
