Cuban composer and singer Raúl Gómez is known as a member of groups such as Mirtha Y Raul and Los Bucaneros, and also produced the classic Cuban salsa album 'Los Reyes 73.' On this record, released on Cuba's state label Areito, Raúl Gómez shines not only as an instrumentalist and writer but also as producer and arranger. Floating somewhere between ...Read more (Original Japanese text by AYAM)mood music and library/soundtrack fare while adding a dose of Afro-Cuban magic, this is a one-of-a-kind Latin jazz masterpiece. "Un Paseo A La Playa" (sample_1), which echoes the orchestrated disco coming out of America around 1974-75 from the likes of the Love Unlimited Orchestra and MFSB, brings things to a dramatic close. A rich output of music born in post-revolution Cuba. First-ever vinyl reissue — don't miss it! (Original Japanese text by AYAM)

MrBongo's enthusiasm can be seen in the fact that the cover is not the Cuban version, but the more rare Mexican version artwork by 〈Pentagrama Records〉. Although the band released only two albums and a 7-inch single, they were quite an influential group in Cuba in the 1970s. Produced by Raúl Gómez, one of the most important names in MR BONGO's Cuba ...Read more (Original Japanese text by AYAM) series, and directed by Santiago Reyes and Ovidio Guerra, the album is orchestrated by Ricardo Eddy Martinez, who also released the highly popular "Expreso Ritmico" album in 1978. Miguel Ángel Rasalps of Los Van Van is said to have contributed to the composition, but details are unknown. From the shimmering opener "Grandes Amigos" to the trippy "Adeoey" and groovy "Un Lamento Hecho Cancion," this is a fusion of traditional Cuban son aesthetics, US funk influences, and psychedelic, cosmic fusion that works on the modern dance floor. A great piece of mesmerizing fusion. (Original Japanese text by AYAM)

Full-on Latin phrasing and busy playing can run a little too hot — here it's toned down to just the right degree. Maybe this is exactly the texture behind why certain Latin music got filed under "mondo" back in the '90s. Now that we've all passed through South American electronics and ambient music, this lightness and mellow psych feel hits oddly r ...Read more (Original Japanese text by Shhhhh)ight. And for us here at the shop, above all, it includes THAT track sampled in the intro of ALTZ's first album. All in all, a 1977 Cuban gem full of fun, poppy backstories.

Juan Almeida led the Cuban Revolution alongside the Castro brothers and Che Guevara, and after the revolution he served as one of the country's vice presidents and as president of the Association of Combatants of the Cuban Revolution, all while publishing books as an author and, as a composer, leaving behind more than 300 Cuban songs. There's a cinematic, orchestral-score quality to the sound, sound effects and percussion that recur like apparitions of ghosts and spirits, trippy electronics, orchestrated classical passages... and moments that plunge into exotic funk, mambo, psychedelia and Afro-Cuban percussion — varied and grand throughout. The intros and outros are played seamlessly, mixtape style, so before you know it you're fully immersed and have listened straight through. The samples are excerpts from tracks running nine and seven minutes. Please experience it as a full listen from start to finish. (Original Japanese text by AYAM)

(AYAM)

(Shhhhh)

(Shhhhh)
