Their previous album, Ba’dansa, released in 2020, featured tracks primarily sourced from a USB drive obtained from a taxi driver in a South African township they visited themselves. However, in this new release, “Ba’dansa Vol. 2 ~Slow Dancing in Shadows~,” released five years later, Amapiano—which appeared only briefly on the previous album as an “emerging genre that early adopters were already taking notice of”—has gained global recognition over the past five years. Amidst the continuous emergence of new subgenres, this album delves deeper into the world of the mellow, jazzy style known as “Private School Piano.” It features a reggae/ dancehall-inspired slow-mo rhythms that exude an even more intense sensuality —from "Slow Jam" and "AMA45," slow-tempo Amapiano tracks around 90 BPM, to the moody deep house world of SA DEEP HOUSE, which follows the same path as the previous album. This evolves into a mysteriously alluring, adult urban smooth sound, gradually and meticulously building toward the heights of erotic love’s joy with dramatic melancholy, The track is mixed and constructed with fluid, gentle precision. The climax in the first half—a sweet, rich, and lingering saxophone solo that seems to go on forever—is truly irresistible.
The supreme mastering, featuring the mellow richness and lustrous warmth of tube amplification, is courtesy of Hacchi (Urban Volcano Sound). Artwork by Leo Kiman.
70 minutes and 29 seconds of deep, mellow, smooth, sporty, and danceable sounds perfect for the coming season. (Original Japanese text by COMPUMA)

Ayu-Chan-Ching herself traveled alone to South Africa in 2016 and 2017, heading straight to the townships (non-white residential areas from the apartheid era; ghetto areas still predominantly inhabited by Black people today), and this house music mix features numerous tracks saved on a USB drive she obtained from a local Uber driver. While GQOM has ...Read more (Original Japanese text by COMPUMA) been in the spotlight in recent years when it comes to South African dance music, what’s included here is melodic, jazzy DEEP HOUSE that’s popular and beloved within township communities (much like J-POP is in Japan). Although it originates from a ghetto where red dust swirls, these surprisingly urban, sexy, and smooth sounds might be perceived as somewhat softer and more commercial compared to the dark, underground GQOM. However, the light beats, melodramatic fusion-style/ jazz-infused melodies, combined with a unique African-Caribbean sense of rhythm that’s distinctly different from that of the West, are absolutely delightful. It’s simply the best. If you get a chance, please give it a listen! !! Not only does it feature South African, tropical, and Caribbean flavors, but it’s also a gem of jazzy deep house with elegant, smooth crossover R&B and soul influences that effortlessly incorporate those elements. Even the slightly cheap-sounding, rough audio quality really grabs you. I highly recommend this MIXCD. (Original Japanese text by COMPUMA)

This ultra-rare album—which was featured by Gilles Peterson on his radio show as one of “The 20 South African Jazz” albums—is so sought-after on the collector’s market that first-press copies sometimes sell for £1,000. Side A, consisting of the title track “Yakhal’ Inkomo” (sample_1) and “Dedication” (sample_2)—dedicated to Wayne Shorter and Coltrane—features two exceptionally beautiful original compositions that encompass modal and spiritual styles. Side B features Horace Silver’s “Doodlin’” and Coltrane’s “Bessie’s Blues” (sample_3). A beautiful treasure on par with Coltrane and Wayne Shorter, created by musicians who escaped the harsh apartheid regime of 1968. Don’t miss this opportunity to add it to your collection.
