It has arrived. This is global acid that inherits the eclectic charm of ’90s techno—which experimented with fusing hardware sounds with elements of dub and world music—as elements like khöömei, ancient Chinese samples, and Asian landscapes are woven into the acid like a fantasy. On B1, he puts an acid spin on “Asatoya Yunta,” a classic Japanese tropical track beloved by Y.M.O., the great pioneers of Japanese electronic music. A mythical quality lurks subtly beneath the humor of everyday life. (Original Japanese text by Saito)

Originating from the 1980s Kansai noise/industrial scene, Akira Ohashi sensed a similar vibe in jungle—a new offshoot of UK ghetto music—and absorbed it, transforming it into something entirely new: the legendary unit known as Psyche Outs. This album features everything from a mutant form of jungle—which pioneered nerdcore and J-Core through genius ...Read more and bold sampling and the use of the Amen break—to breakbeats imbued with the mass and substance of industrial music, to futuristic bass tracks offering their own take on two-step and breaks—all packed in without a moment’s respite. Psych Outs’ aesthetic—which brazenly mixed disparate sound sources and subcultures, shocking artists both at home and abroad—was a precursor to 21st-century music (just as it once thrilled Yasuharu Konishi and Kenji Kubo), resonates with the modern jungle scene currently booming worldwide and continues to drive freaks wild to this day.
The track selection and supervision for this compilation were handled by two experts: Yuta Umegaya of Murder Channel and Ian Willett-Jacob, author of Ian’s Nardcore Encyclopedia. Most of the tracks are being released on CD for the first time, and the compilation covers their signature songs, rare tracks, and live recordings, making it perfect for everyone from beginners to die-hard fans. Mastering was handled by Dubplate & Mastering in Germany. Umeya’s top-secret commentary is a must-read!

"The most luxurious cosmetics is romance."

This nostalgic and breezy song, reminiscent of a cosmetics commercial song, was born from this theme. The song is a miraculous lovers rock number in which the different elements of tough and tight reggae/lovers rock and urban pop complement each other without canceling each other out. The son ...Read moreg has a unique brilliance that cannot be dismissed as a mere "commercial song style".

The B-side features "Cosmetic Dub," a mellow and fantastic dub mix by Ruv Bytes.

The B side features a mellow and fantastic dub mix by Ruv Bytes called "Cosmetic Dub," which is a different take on the same song by applying a dub "makeover.
The sweet mood of Lovers Rock and the Japanese pop sensibility blend comfortably together, making this a perfect album for the spring season.

Planetarium Lyra
I've come across a wonderful work.

I have no specialized knowledge whatsoever about this kind of music.
I myself have kept playing in bands for nearly 30 years.
The definitions of "sounds I love" and "sounds I want to make" that I've arrived at over that time are very close to the sound of Planetarium Lyra.

B ...Read moreeing intellectual, contextual, and collaborative.
To my mind, each of these three has its own corresponding method of output.

Intellectual means having reason and wisdom when you set out to do something.
Contextual means having a foundation rooted in the path you've walked so far.
Collaborative means trusting your partner completely and entrusting yourself to them.

Planetarium Lyra has all three in place.

Intellect: I think the theme is distilled into the title of the first track.
Beyond the "cuteness" that fairies possess, I could naturally picture them darting through all sorts of in-between spaces (genres).

Context: In terms of structure, from the second track onward it's packaged as "soft–hard–still–moving."
An hour flies by.

Track order matters, but track titles matter even more. Only once a title is attached does the concept of a piece come to the surface.
In that sense, Vajra comes across as a very powerful track.
The connotation of an aesthetic sensibility—yes, I see.

And what I personally want to single out is the collaboration and the depiction.

Generally speaking, I feel solo albums are often made dictatorially, with the sound created under a centralized leader.
But Planetarium Lyra is decentralized, you might say—not a geocentric creation revolving around a leader, but a central figure entering into all sorts of networks, with each track achieving a superb level of completion through the descriptive power gained from collaborating with those people.

I think this too stems from the many genres, sounds, and live shows she has passed through until now.

For my generation, the planetarium was a really rich form of entertainment.
Incomparably more so than the zoo or the park.
I loved the planetarium.
You'd feel the vastness of space, and though the stars were so far away, between the narrator's voice
and all the various guiding effects, there was a sense of intimacy with that "faraway beyond"—I remember staying for hours.

Planetarium Lyra
I can listen for hours. It's good music.

Thank you, Mayuko.
