Can you believe it? A ship carrying the cutting-edge electronic instruments of the time—which were supposed to arrive in Brazil—ended up drifting to Cape Verde, a small nation off the west coast of North Africa in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, and a miracle happened! Is this true or just a rumor?! A 2LP compilation of Cape Verde’s electrified, cosmic Afro-Portuguese-Brazilian fusion electro sounds from the late 1970s to the early 1980s. Released by the renowned label Analog Africa.
Fifteen tracks of dance music blending the melancholic passion of Creole music with roots in Portugal and Brazil, alongside the electrified sounds of Angola’s Sempá. A deluxe double-LP set with a gatefold sleeve and a 2-page booklet. 15 tracks in total. Although originally released in June 2016, we’re pleased to reintroduce it. We’ve restocked it. In 1971, a small Italian label Folkmusic released a collection of tribal and exotic oral music from Africa, Australia, and New Zealand, which included dances and rhythms from special rituals and festivals rooted in the myths, fairy tales, traditions, legends, and magic of the tribes living in the remote areas of those times. The recordings are the result of a unique, valuable, and interesting experiment by two multi-instrumentalists, Alessandro Alessandroni and Giuliano Sorgini, to recreate the tribal and exotic oral music of myths, fairy tales, traditions, legends, magic, and special rituals and festivals rooted in the lives of the tribes living in the remote areas of those times!
The 14 tracks are filled with exotic African tribal percussion sounds that make full use of congas, bongos, and other African percussion from Senegal, Maori, Somali, and Maasai tribes, as well as flute, flute, voodoo drums, and New Zealand percussion. The minimalistic exotic percussion grooves with a library-music feel are very mysterious. No-digit ...Read more (Original Japanese text by COMPUMA)al vinyl only release. A masterful fusion of African groove and the elegance of American modal jazz, this is the worldwide reissue of one of the greatest albums in the history of South African jazz, released in 1979. 『In the late 1980s, singer Bizimungu Dieudonne, his wife Agnes Uwimbabazi, and a backing band of family and friends self-released a visionary cassette, featuring stuttering electric guitars, loping bass lines, and call and response vocals.
Their combo of 80s studio wizardry rooted in traditional Rwandan praise songs re ...Read more (Original Japanese text by Saito)sulted in hypnotic, extended jams unlike anything else released in East Africa at the time. The lyrics praised the beauty of the countryside and the exploits of the ancient gods. On plaintive acoustic tracks squeezed between the electric bangers, Bizimungu and Agnes called for unity in the divided nation.
Their message was an eerie presaging of the coming Rwandan Genocide. Bizimungu and Agnes, along with bandmates BIGIRIMANA AUGUSTIN, and NIYONGAMIJE EMMANUEL were all killed by Hutu militias in 1994. Their music was silenced, any traces almost lost in the ensuing decades.
We first heard this album through music scholar Matthew Lavoie in 2018, and spent years looking for any surviving members of the band. Last year, co-producer and Voice of America host Jackson Mvunganyi tracked down Bizimungu and Agnes’ daughter, Noella, in Kigali. Only 9 years old at the time of her parents’ death, she had taken on the task of reintroducing their work to a new generation in Rwanda. Though her family lost almost everything in the genocide, Noella tracked down a CD containing the master recordings of Inzovu Y’imirindi from one of the band's early producers.
It is stunning to finally hear this music in its fullness and immediacy, beautifully remastered at Osiris Studios. We’re grateful to Noella and our collaborators for helping us share Bizimungu and Agnes’ vital music and message with the world.』 (Original Japanese text by Saito)
